My work is closed tomorrow, so that's the third snow day in a row. I am so excited. I think I'll try to get in a little quality sledding in addition to the homework I should get done because Thursday .

I cam home today. It seemed like a good idea because my dorm room had a rapidly diminishing food supply. At home, my mother is cooking queash and casserole and pot roast.

excessive thoughts on last night's HIMYM and a few on BBT )

Aaand, because it looks like I'm going to have some free time tomorrow...

Ask me my fannish Top Five [Whatevers]. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really! And I will answer them all in a new post. Possibly with pictures if possible.

I guess that's all for tonight. Anyone have any good snow stories?

Wooo! Federal Government is closed tomorrow! (Well, actually, it's essential employees, but I am an intern and therefore, as nonessential as possible.) I'll use my day off to either work on [info]whedonland challenges or study for my macro test. I think we all know which one is actually going to happen.

I spent about 48 hours of the snowstorm at [info]fragmentedsky's place. We took the opportunity to do some serious television watching...

Six episodes of Wonderfalls.
Four episodes of T:SCC
Three episodes of The Middleman
Two episodes of Sailor Moon
Eight episodes of Avatar: The Last Airbender
Two episodes of Doctor Who
Movie: Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Wonderfalls got the priority because it was the clear leader in my poll earlier this week.

Title: The Grand Plan
Author: [info]thornyrose42
Fandom: Harry Potter
Characters: Narcissa, Scorpious (Draco, Asteria, Susan Bones)
Genre: gen
Wordcount: 3833

Why it is awesome: A lot has been written about the next generation of Hogwarts students. One unfortunate trend is to put the children in the exact same situation as their parents. James, Albus, Lily, Hugo and Rose are generally our brave heroes, often picked on by the mean Slytherins, usually represented by Scorpious. This story stands out because the author really found a new direction in considering the idea that perhaps the war did change some things. While the Weasleys & Co. are all doing fine monetarily speaking, it would be expected that the Malfoys experienced some setbacks. The story shows a world where the Malfoy's fortune has been siezed by the ministry, where they're unable to find work because of the family name and where they desperately cling to their pride in spite of their abject poverty.

What could be more awesome than a story of Narcissa and Draco struggling to afford school supplies for young Scorpious?

An excerpt: under the cut )

Without further ado, the story is here.

Be sure to let me (and the author) know if you like the story!

We're do for some pretty serious snow today. I'm not quite convinced since it was merely overcast while I walked to class this morning. I suppose it's possible that it's snowing now, but I'm sitting in the basement of the chemistry building so it's hard to tell.

On the up side, I'm going over to [info]fragmentedsky's apartment tonight and we're going to marathon some dorky television. Aaand, I think that will probably include Wonderfalls in its entirety since that was such on popular choice on my poll yesterday.

In other news, this class is dull and I completed a fandom meme from a while ago.

MEME TIME:
Comment and I'll pick three of your fandoms and post the answers to your journal and so on and so forth. (I know I did this meme last week, but I was tagged twice and I love talking about television.)

[info]mfirefly10 gave me Supernatural, Angel and Torchwood.

Whenever I decide to start watching a new show, I am always torn between which awesome show to watch first. So, I decided to ask my lovely f-list for your opinions. Under the cut is a pretty poll with a lot of possible choices. Vote for whatever you like and I'll somehow compile that into an actual order of priority.

If you feel the need, go ahead and make your case for or against a certain show in comments. Gifs and pictures are a good way to prove awesomeness. I can be easily swayed.

WHICH AWESOME SHOWS SHOULD I WATCH NEXT? (because everyone likes voting in polls) )

Ugly Betty was lovely last night. Daniel/Betty, y/n?

Preparations of LOST's Final Season Premiere
1. Clear my schedule. Not just one, but two school clubs tried to pressure me into coming to events tonight.
2. Get most of my assignments done before LOST starts. I don't want to be watching the premiere while stressing about school assignments.
3. Read all my posts on LOST episodes from last season. Not my favorite year in LOST, but there were some definite LOL-worthy moments.
4. Upload lots of pretty new LOST icons so that I'll have a relevant one for all discussion.
5. SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!
6. Prepare to feel like this...

I thought I'd mix it up a bit this week and recommend a vid. Aand, more importantly, in honor of LOST'S FINAL SEASON IN TWO DAYS, a great vid about John Locke who we all love (or, in my case, who we love to hate).

Fandom: LOST
Song 'I Just Can't Wait to be King' from Lion King
Vidder: belxf on youtube
Characters: Locke, Ben and others.

Why it is awesome: This is a prime example of a vidder who is too good for youtube. Her editing is fabulous and this song fits John Locke oh-so-perfectly. I particularly like that Ben is playing the part of Zazu. Also, the ending is perfect. (If you like this one, check out her others. She's got a few great Sawyer/Claire and Sawyer/Juliet ones too.)

Without further ado...

Be sure to let me (and the maker) know if you like the vid!

It snowed six inches today and it's very pretty. My tummy is filled with grilled cheese sandwich and warm soup. Both my sisters are home. Aaand, I got to watch Dollhouse with my mother. So, a very good day.

The finale was pretty much perfect. A great way to wrap up the series and leaving me feeling very full of emotion. I just really want more show... Damn you, FOX!

2. I will respond by asking you five questions. I get to pick the questions.
3. You will post the answers to the questions (and the questions themselves) on your blog or journal.
4. You will include this explanation and an offer to interview someone else in the same post.
5. When others comment asking to be interviewed, you will ask them five questions. And so on and so on and so on...

As for my real life: I just saw Sherlock Holmes with a friend in Georgetown. It was a pretty good film and just filled with slashy tension. Loved the relationship dynamic because it kinda is House/Wilson, my OTP of all OTPs.

Waking up and getting read at 6 AM is kinda fun in a dorm where no one wakes up on Wednesdays until noon. There was no one in the bathroom hogging the good shower and I got to use whatever sink I wanted. My roommate wakes up super early too. She ice skates and has rehearsal. Figure skating is probably seventeen times cooler than having a regular old job.

GOV PROFESSOR: (offhand) Oh, don't worry everyone fails the first quiz anyway.
CLASS: (laughs)
GOV PROFESSOR: No, seriously.

In other news, I watched all of 'Secret Diary of a Call Girl' this weekend. I only made the final jump because I heard Callum Blue was in it (not until second season, but what can you do?). I will admit that it was rather disconcerting to watch ROSE TYLER have that much sex.

Title: Five Ways Ruby Told the Truth
Author: [info]utsusemia
Fandom: Supernatural
Genre: Character Study
Rating: M
Wordcount: about 2300
Spoilers: End of fourth season.

Why it is awesome: There's a lot of Ruby hate in the fandom - some justified and some not. She's a fascinating character. A demon who is strong and manipulative, who's blind devotion to Satan leads her to work deep under cover with the enemy, guiding and molding Sam into the monster they need him to be. She's smart and capable and slightly psychotic. To a certain extent, I think SPN writers (and Kripke in particular) have struggled with the portrayal of their female characters. I like this story because it shows that sometimes the fans can do a better job. The writing is almost lyrical as it flows off the page and a largely unexplored side of Ruby is shown - one where she's not just an evil bitch who manipulates Sam. It's a short story, but it packs a punch especially in the last sentence.

An Excerpt: Sam won't see her out there )

Without further ado, the story is here.

Be sure to let me (and the author) know if you like the story!

First things first, I was rewatching some old Big Bang Theory episodes the other day and I came to two important realizations. (1) I miss Leslie Winkle like whoah. (2)I ship her and Penny way more than anything else on that show.

Moving onto other unimportant things, [info]fannish5 Friday: Name five fictional workplaces where you would like to be employed.

UGLY BETTY!

What? That's still on? Yeah and the show has moved past it's slightly flawed second and third seasons into a phenomenal fourth. It started out this season in the Friday night death slot (where ABC put the show to die), but has recently been moved to Wednesday nights. We're seeing this as a tentative victory, but we still need to work on the ratings.

For those unfamiliar, Ugly Betty is a fun, fish-out-of-water comedy with lots of good drama mixed in. The story is of Betty - an optimistic go-getter who always dreamed of writing for a magazine about travel or world news. The series begins when she lands her big break - an assistant to the editor at Mode, the high-fashion magazine in New York City. The show is filled with a great supporting cast, portraying a host of other employees of Mode and Betty's own eccentric family. More than anything, the story is about her making her way in the world of fashion - a place where she is very much on the outs. (Think 'Devil Wears Prada' without the makeover.)

I think my favorite thing about this show is it's ability to laugh at itself. It likes to go a little over the top, but at it's heart it is endearing and touching story. (To give you an idea: When I started watching Glee, I kept thinking about how the sentiment reminded me of Ugly Betty.)

Video is meant to be a summary of the current season and actually does a really good job. (It is also slightly biased in terms of shipping. Daniel/Betty is not necessarily trufax.)

Hello, all! I'm just popping in from my unnanounced hiatus from lj (the usual - school, work, friends, life, etc.) to make sure you all know that I am alive and mostly well. And that I have been reading all your lovely posts for the last two weeks, just haven't quite had the time to say anything about them. Hopefully, I'll do a commenting splurge sometime this weekend.

Also, I'm sharing some Fandom!Secrets hilarity for Torchwood fans.

THE SECRET IN QUESTION (posted two days ago)

THE BEAUTIFUL RESPONSE (keep reading down the comments because there are several lol-worthy moments)

And, now, back to postindustrial politics and macroeconomics.

I felt like I ought to post about something, so let's try a little real life.

1. Moved back into school this weekend. Have a brand new roommate who is pretty nice and likes Harry Potter (but hates the epilogue) and is addicted to coffee. I'm still adjusting to having a roommate who isn't also one of my best friends. When I leave the room for a few hours, I don't tell her where I'm going. When I'm going to get lunch, I don't need to invite her to come to. ... It's just taking some getting used to.

1a. [info]helplessdancer please come back and be my roomie again! Going to Italy is totally not as fun as watching Chuck and Supernatural with me. Yesterday fandom secrets was posted and I had no one to tell because you weren't in the room. So, uh, please come back?

2. I'm in my Environmental Chemistry class right now. It's actually not as boring as it sounds.

3. My job, which is now a 16-hours week job instead of fulltime, consists mostly of my sitting at a desk and surfing the internet (or whatever sites haven't been blocked by DHS). Therefore, I have written a lot of fanfiction. Unfortunately, it's all in a notebook and I appear to be too busy to type it up. So, hopefully no longer working fulltime will give me some time to do that.

4. I've now watched all of Avatar: The Last Airbender except that last four episodes. It's a bit of an understatement to say that I'm excited about seeing how it ends - although fandom secrets has already given me a pretty clear idea of the shippiness of the ending. (And, I really feel like I should pick a side on the Katara/Aang v Katara/Zuko battle. While I have no fondness for Katara/Aang, I really want Zuko to be with Mai... *conflicted*)

5. I've now watched all of Chuck except that last three episodes of S2 and however many S3 episodes have already aired.

6. I still can't get over how incredible Dollhouse was on Friday.

7. [info]whedonland is awesome. You should all join!

8. I just realized how sad it is that my 'real life' post is still mostly fandom. I have no life.

So, uh, Dollhouse, anyone? )

In other news, I just saw Avatar. It was surprisingly better than I expected. I sometimes feel like lj fandom massively lowers my expectations for movies and such. It was better than expected. Not particurally good, but I nothing drags a movie down faster than fancy special effects. It's like the makers forget they need a plot too.
